Baby is here!

We welcomed our newest baby boy just before 1 AM on Sunday, November 2, here at home as planned.   He was about 10 days early, and weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 20 inches long.  Labor was a little longer and trickier in spots than we expected, but the real excitement came at delivery.  Thinking it would be a “little while longer” the midwife went downstairs to use the restroom and while she was gone, my husband caught a baby! with our doula and a grandma looking on.

I have lots of sewing projects to share and will try to get caught up here in the next few weeks!

Wait! I can’t catch up!!

There are times when my life (and probably yours, too) feels like an old-fashioned carousel ride.  It keeps spinning and I’m trying to catch up and jump on, but I just can’t run fast enough to get on a horse, let alone grab the brass ring.   Just when I think I’m getting close, the ride speeds up or I stumble and I get farther behind.

I didn’t step foot in my sewing room for almost a week.  We had several days of above average temps (around 90 degrees), which makes my west facing, used to be a sunporch, sewing room into a sauna…minus the steam and naked people.  One day, just for fun, I put a thermometer in there…105 degrees.  No way was this pregnant lady about to spend more than a few seconds there!

But the heat did bless us with this…a gorgeous sunset

Then, over the weekend, I was visited by a tummy bug.  I will spare you the details, but I was totally useless all weekend.  Thank the Lord above that I was the only one honored with this visitor.

Yesterday, I surveyed the wreckage of my house.  And decided that even though the balance of clean to dirty dishes was tipped way to the dirty side and that parts of the rug crunched when walked upon, the thing that really needed to be done first was to organize our home library and homeschool area.  Hmm, could I be nesting already?  I have reached the third trimester of my pregnancy, yeah!!

Today, I had a grand plan to spend the first couple hours of my day (while the baby was still sleeping) sewing…or at least getting my messy sewing room ready to sew.  Alas, the baby woke up early.  Then, I spent the first half hour of my day unclogging the toilet.  My sweet husband had already left for work, so the job fell to me.

Finally, I was able to spend a few minutes on a huge job I’ve been wanting to get to for a while:  taking & posting photos of all the fabrics I have available for custom orders.  This is a huge undertaking, and I’m going to be doing it in little bites.  I took 9 pictures before the camera batteries ran out (note to self: find the battery charger).  And I opened a new photobucket album for my fabric pics.  I debated between pb and flickr, but picked pb because if I wanted to add another flickr album, I’d have to upgrade.  Since I’ve spent a little too much on fabric recently, I decided to go the free route.

Then I made a little button to put on my sidebar.

Pretty cute, eh?

So, I did finish rehemming a friend’s linen shirt.  I put away all the (home)school supplies I’ve been gathering.  I shelved about half of the book the toddler pulled off the shelves when I was busy elsewhere.  I went to a long overdue eye appointment (yeah, it’s been over five years…).  I picked veggies (cukes, beans & tomatoes) from our garden for dinner.  And made dinner.  I’m done for the day.  Ugh.

Tomorrow, I will spend time picking, shredding and freezing zuchini and figuring out the easiest way to make pickles without a pressure canner.  I need to return some overdue books to the library and stop by the optometrist, because when I went today, I left my wallet at home and funny thing, they won’t order my new glasses until I pay for them.

I will try to take another set of fabric photos and finish another A is for Apron apron for the Retro Femme stocking on Friday.  I need to call a repair person for our fridge, which occasionally leaks water out the bottom.   I need to do some laundry and start packing for our annual trip to the beach next week.  Making sure that 6 other people have enough clean clothes for 5 days at the beach when the weather is doing a hot today, cold tomorrow thing will be fun.

If I can do all that, I will start on a set of Bible covers for a local customer.  I want to try out the new Amy Butler Birdie Sling bag pattern I just received.

HA!  What are my chances??  Can someone push the button to stop the carousel??

Fabric Giveaway

Filed under: random stuff — Tags: — Lady M Quilts @ 4:09 pm

No, not my giveaway, but one I’m entering, over at Vintage Chic.  She’s giving away 4 yards (yes FOUR WHOLE YARDS) of the new Heather Bailey Pop Garden line of fabric.  I’ve been looking and drooling a bit over this collection, but have held back from buying any due to the almost overwhelming amount of fabric I already have.  But I can’t pass up a chance to win some!

There’s a prize for non-sewers, too, so take a moment to check it out!

Hey, I’m a winner!!

Wow, I’m so happy. I won a cute embroidered onesie from Daisyeyes

I can choose any of her designs and I think I’m going to go with a turtle…I’m really liking turtles lately.  I like the “turtle motto” that “slow and steady wins the race”.  It reminds me that I shouldn’t try to sprint through my days, but enjoy them and pace myself so I don’t miss the little things that really matter.

She has some really cute things…go check it out!

JD Aviary Almond Sparrows Wallet

Yes!!  It’s done, packaged and mailed!  My break can officially start now.

This is the wallet.  I wanted a sparrow right at the front by the snap closure, but the way the fabric is printed, I couldn’t find a place where I could do that and not have one upside down somewhere else!  So I used a swath of fabric with no sparrows and appliqued one on exactly where I wanted it.

I love how it came out!  I also added a couple sparrows to the bag.  Here’s one…

I had a great mail day today.  I received this book all the way from Japan:

Yes, it is in Japanese, but it has really clear diagrams.  The doll is about 15″ tall and the book includes the pattern to make her and about 20 outfits ranging from panties & pjs to casual wear to a fancy party dress.  My plan is to make 3 of these dolls for my girls for Christmas.

But first, we will celebrate the 4th of July and I will spend part of the day sewing some skirts for my oldest before she goes to Gramma’s and day camp next week.

Enjoy the holiday and stay safe!!  Leave the fireworks to the pros. 🙂

Unmotivated Monday

Monday is not my favorite day, like many people, I’m sure.  On Mondays, my hubby goes to work very early, which means I have the honor and duty to get up with our toddler at the lovely hour of 5 am.  Ugh.  I much prefer the days when hubby goes to work later and so the honor and duty is his, and I can sleep in until 7. Which is a much more reasonable time to get up, especially after staying awake until almost midnight enjoying a quiet house, a good book and several cups of herbal tea.

I did have a productive weekend, just not in the sewing room.  I conquered Mt Dishes!!! For the first time in, well, a very long time, my kitchen counter was clear of all dirty dishes…for about 15 minutes.  But now that I’m on top of the mountain, I mean to stay there.  So as soon as I post this, off I will go to wash dishes…if the power stays on.  The wind is howling and we’ve already lost power once today…just for a little while, but I’d be far from surprised if it went off again tonight.

Let’s see…I did get the two custom bags sent out.  Here are the final posed pics…aren’t they lovely?

I’ve already heard from the new owner of the Ginger Blossom (on the left) bag…she was thrilled…and I’m thrilled that she is so happy!  The other bag is going to Canada, and hopefully it’s new owner will also be very happy with her bag and accessories.

Next up…I’m finalizing details for the JD Aviary bag and I’m starting tomorrow on a Mix It Up apron for a customer in the UK.  I’m thinking the layout will be something like this:

The top fabric will also be the waistband and there will be another stripe of the multi-color dots (Vintage Dots) on the very bottom.  I’ve changed around the layout about ten times, but I’m pretty sure I like this one the best and will start cutting it out tomorrow.

There is one other thing I’ve been working on:

I’m about 18 weeks along now…my last three babies have come at 39 weeks, so if this wee one follows the trend, I’m just about, nearly, almost halfway through this pregnancy.  I’ve haven’t for sure felt any movement yet…but soon, I think.  And I’m also out of my “regular clothes”…which means I will be sewing up some maternity skirts in the next few days.  Since my last baby, I’ve stopped wearing pants and at any rate, my maternity wardrobe, which has seen much service these last ten years, is in dire need of a injection of new things…maybe even some shirts, too…we’ll see.

Off to the dishes and then bed!  Five a.m. will be here sooner than I’d like.

Double Tagged

I’ve been double tagged (does that mean I’m a real blogger now?) by summersadie and by see mommy sew.  Since I’m taking a sewing break today, I thought I’d post my answers.

#1…What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was working full time, attending college almost full time and having long discussions with my husband about what we really wanted to do with our lives.  We decided to start our family and leave the rat race behind for a simple, children filled life.

#2…5 things on my to-do list for today?

The same 5 are there almost every day: dishes, laundry, homeschool, sewing and gardening.  Today, only some dishes and laundry got done:  I slept wrong last night and have been dealing with a pinched nerve or something that is making my right arm alternate between pain and tingling numbness…so I’ve been resting and using the heating pad today, more than anything else.

#3…Snacks I enjoy

Pretzels, M&M’s, popcorn, chips & quacamole.

#4…Things I would do if i was a billionaire

Yikes, the list would be endless, but start with paying off all our debt and that of our parents.  Build a house on acreage for our growing family.  Donations to causes that we long to support, but can’t.  Travel with our children.  More donations to great causes.  A really really nice embrodiery machine. 🙂

#5…Places I have lived

Born in Seattle, WA.  Grew up 20 miles away in Mountlake Terrace.  Spent a year in Sweden as an exchange student in high school.  Spent 18 long months living in San Diego before I came to my senses and came home to WA.  Bothell, then Lynnwood, then Marysville, then Tacoma and now Port Orchard…all in WA.   The good Lord willing, I’ll never leave WA state.

Okay, my right arm is getting tingly again, and according to the tag “rules”, I’m supposed to pick people to tag.  Well, I’m going to take a shortcut and say that if you would like to share your answers to the above questions, consider yourself “tagged” and leave a comment with a link to your post, ok?

Sometime before bed, I’ll be listing a couple things at Beautiful Enchantments for Friday stocking:  the Josephine apron and the Circangle purse.  Tomorrow, I’ll hopefully be back to sewing, I have two wallets to finish up and I’m working on a skirt and a couple of dresses for a friend’s daughter.

Thanks for visiting!

The end is near??

If history truly repeats itself, I only have 2 or 3 more weeks of feeling like a overcooked noodle with the tummy flu.  The good news is that we were able to hear the heartbeat at my visit with the midwife on Tuesday. In the rare moments that I feel a bit of energy and lessening of queasiness, I usually head straight to my sewing room, ignoring the piles of laundry and dishes.

I have two custom orders for the coming & going bag, both with the Sparrows fabric from Joel Dewberry.  The first is done and in the mail:

The other one is started and should be done this weekend.  I’ve listed two more semi-custom slots for this bag at Beautiful Enchantments, which stocks at 2pm eastern on Friday.  There are other fabric choices available: Metro Blues and Katie Jump Rope.

Speaking of Katie, I’m (still) working on a patchy, retro apron with this fun prints.  If I can manage to be upright for a couple of hours tonight, I’ll list it at Retro Femme tomorrow.

Thanks to all 3 🙂 of you who still visit me and I hope to be up to full speed again soon!

Announcing…

Filed under: crochet, random stuff, sewing — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , — Lady M Quilts @ 8:18 am

I’m still here!  I haven’t been sewing hardly at all for the last couple of weeks, but I did manage to crochet a lovely bag that I listed at RetroFemme last week:

As to the reason I’ve been under the weather and not sewing much, it’s nothing too surprising for us.  A pretty regular occurance around here.  We are expecting a new baby!, around the middle of November, if all goes as we hope and pray it will.  This makes baby number six for us and we are just as happy and excited as we were when our first was on the way.

Though I will say, I was a little more excited when I wasn’t suffering from round the clock “morning” sickness and then a bad cold on top of it!

I do have sewing plans for this week.  A custom bag from the Joel Dewberry Sparrows line.  An apron from Katie Jump Rope.  A dress for my oldest daughter.   Listing a few more things at Etsy.  Hoping I can keep the saltine cracker crumbs off the fabric. 🙂

And a little giveaway on Thursday for my birthday.  Check back for more details tomorrow.

a quiet week

I’m not feeling well this week so I’m not getting much sewing or crafting done.  I’m working on a couple of things for next week, including a crocheted handbag, but most of my energy is being taken up by keeping the house clean “enough” and the laundry caught up enough that everyone has clean underwear.

I’ll be stocking at a new congo next week called Beautiful Enchantments.  Lots of darling stuff for moms and babies.  Some members will be stocking tomorrow, so come see what they have to offer:
